We believe this school must be more than just a private institution for children to learn.
It will make a contribution to the environment and the community in general.
At Costa Verde International School, our mission is to incite learning throughout the community. As an elementary school with initial grades from preschool through 6 the, our aim is to produce healthy, happy and well-adjusted life-long learners. Our target is that each child acquires fluency in a second language and a profound understanding of the necessity for a “green” approach to living. To achieve this, CVIS is dedicated to a small student to teacher ratio and has focused education on the whole child in an environment designed to develop the talents and skills particular to each individual. School curriculum centers on ecology and respect for the environment. Students learn to analyze and solve problems, rather than simply memorizing facts. Our International School is just the beginning. Our goal is to provide all ages in our community with a location to find knowledge. Through our Sustainable Resource Center, our mission is to get the people of the community to find the changes they feel are important and to make those changes. Through our Cultural Center, our ambition is to provide adult education classes, art showings, theatre, a public library, and other learning opportunities for the community. We want to expose our amalgam of families to art, culture, and knowledge from around the world and to inspire the entire town to become ecological.
CVIS is designed to meet the needs of preschool and elementary aged students in reduced classes promoting integral learning. The student population will be an example of true global diversity, and address the benefits of this shared community. Additional specialty centers such as a media room, computer center, and virtual classroom will enhance the opportunities provided.
Acceptance to the school is based on applications, assessment evaluations, and interviews. If you would like all of the requirements, please visit the school and arrange a meeting. The scholarship program is be designed to provide access to local children who are in need of financial assistance, thereby creating a diverse economic population. There are several levels of scholarships ranging from full scholarship to a 25% deduction of monthly tuition. We are able to offer so many scholarships because of the funds donated by local humanitarians, foundations, and business owners. SEP guidelines insist on a minimum of 6% of the student population scholarships. Our goal is to provide at least 25% of our children on scholarship the first year.
Our temporary location is up and running. Classes started Aug18, 2008. It took a few months to remodel the buildings and bring the facilities up to code. In preparing the site for students we attempted to make use of many green building techniques and operating procedure. Our permanent location will offer an architectural design which takes into consideration the aspects of sustainability, environmental consciousness, green, natural,
and organic approaches required to promote an ideal learning environment. These requirements and the characteristics of the school site,
its neighborhood context, and the local climate and topography will be considered to create the lowest impact on the environment and provide
for general student and community well-being.
CVIS has acquired Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) accreditation and is following the guidelines set forth by this agency.
